The 11th edition of "MENA Rail and Metro Summit" was held under the esteemed patronage of the Federal Transport Authority of the UAE from October 5th – 7th 2015 in Dubai.
The event attracted major urban transport operators and stakeholders such as transport authorities, departments and ministries of transport, municipalities, government railway companies and agencies, urban planners, regional project owners, project management consultants, EPC contractors, operations & maintenance, engineering consultants, specialist & infrastructure works providers, and solution providers. The summit hosted over 500 of the region’s leaders in rail and metro to discuss interoperability, project delivery, opportunities, sustainability, innovation and localization in the MENA region’s exciting transport sector.
As a pioneer of social innovation and a gold partner of the event, Hitachi group companies participated in highly effective speeches and collaborative panel discussions with major stakeholders and partners to highlight its capacity in developing sustainable transport systems. Hitachi showcased a wide collection of solutions such as advanced rail solutions to rolling stock design and manufacture, operations management, monitoring and control, maintenance, and highly sophisticated IT systems integration services with the capability to generate and analyze Big Data in transportation.
Visitors were shown a strong and sustainable rail foundation to support the MENA region growth in sustainable transport systems. Many successful examples were demonstrated including the Palm Jumeirah Monorail as a symbolic and environment friendly traffic solution in Dubai to highlight Hitachi’s Contribution to Tourism Industry and Environment of the UAE. Another example demonstrated was the first urban metro network of Doha, the host city for FIFA 2022 as a contribution to core infrastructure and sustainability of Qatar. In addition, Princess Noura University and line 3 in Riyadh, KSA.

Mr. Alistair Dormer, Vice President and Executive Officer, Global CEO, Rail Systems, Hitachi Ltd (Japan/ UK) joined the Morning hot breakfast Briefing session "Critical success factors in International Rail & Metro Projects" with DLA Piper for IEP Project to provide a client perspective.
Mr. Alistair Dormer gave a keynote speech about "Global Expertise: Focus on Consolidation & Growth in the global railway industry: Successful planning and integration of advanced rail technology into urban transport systems: Examples from the UK and Asia".
Mr. Alistair Dormer was interviewed by Ms. Jennifer Aguinaldo MEED’s Transport & Technologies Editor and two articles were published to highlight Mr. Alistair Dormer's words at MENA Rail and Metro Summit and set the light on Hitachi's success in the UK express trains, as follows:

Mr. Nick Scholes, EMEA Healthcare IT Specialist, Hitachi Vantara Corporation, London, UK represented Hitachi Vantara Corporation at Arab Health Summit, he explained the main focus of the event, which is to help customers in consolidating and gathering different data from the hospitals, and how to analyse this information to help treating the patients more efficiently.
